The annual Sports Foundation Honors Luncheon convenes sports tourism stakeholders, celebrates our sports teams, and honors individuals that have been vital to the success of the Sports Foundation. Your support of the Honors Luncheon is critical to the Sports Foundation and its mission to bid upon and manage major sporting events for the economic benefit of the State and City.


2023 Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation

Hall of Fame Inductees

Ron Maestri

One of the Founders of the Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation, Ron was a legendary Coach of the University of New Orleans (UNO) baseball team and the Athletic Director, leading the Privateers to the College World Series in 1974 and 1984. Maestri served as the Executive Director of NCAA Events for the Sports Foundation from 2000-2004, leading the charge for the 2003 Men’s and the 2004 Women’s Final Fours.

Mike Millay

One of the Founders and the first Executive Director of the Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation, Mike has been a leader in sports tourism and the youth sports space for 35 years. Millay moved to Orlando in 1994 to start the Disney Wide World of Sports complex and is currently consulting the industry as the Managing Partner of Clancy’s Sports Properties.

Doug Thornton

One of the Founders and the President/CEO of Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation from 1994-1997, Doug serves as Executive Vice President of Stadiums for ASM Global, the managers of hundreds of facilities worldwide, including the Caesars Superdome, Smoothie King Center and Champions Square.
